Car written off - what happens to the private number plate?
If you've been in a car accident, and your insurance company decides that your car is 'beyond economical repair', this is called a car write-off.
If you don't have a private number plate on the car, then it's relatively straightforward to deal with the insurance company.
But if you do have a private number plate, then there are a couple of extra steps you need to take, or you could risk losing the personalised registration number. The insurance company may not realise the registration number is important to you - so don't rely on them.
